UPDATE 10 p.m.: Tsunami watch canceled in wake of earthquake | News, Sports, Jobs

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center canceled a tsunami watch for the state of Hawaii late Wednesday night after an 8.2 magnitude earthquake off Alaska initially put the islands on guard.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake struck about 56.5 miles east-southeast of Perryville, Alaska, at around 8:16 p.m. and was followed by a number of aftershocks, including a 6.1 magnitude tremor a few minutes later.
The center issued the tsunami watch at around 8:25 p.m., warning that waves could arrive as early as 12:53 a.m. today, but canceled the watch at around 10 p.m. Wednesday.
