Star Wars Unlimited Set 2 brings with it a batch of new Legendary cards.

With Star Wars Unlimited taking over the TCG space in 2024, it’s only a matter of time until Set 2 arrives to keep the hype train on its tracks. With Shadows of the Galaxy fast approaching, here’s everything you need to know.

There’s no two ways about it, Star Wars Unlimited has been a complete and utter smash hit. The brand-new TCG is selling out worldwide as thousands dive into the experience and drive the prices into orbit.

Though with an initial meta now forming and some of the very best decks taking hold, it won’t be long until Star Wars Unlimited is shaken up once again. As Set 2 approaches, a new influx of cards is set to radically alter the state of play with powerful Leaders and unique mechanics all entering the fray.

When does Star Wars Unlimited Set 2 launch? Shadows of the Galaxy release date

Star Wars Unlimited Set 2: Shadows of the Galaxy is officially set to release on Friday, July 12, 2024.

This release window was confirmed well ahead of the TCG’s launch, as the full 2024 roadmap was laid out. Kicking off with Set 1: Spark of Rebellion in March, Set 2: Shadows of the Galaxy in July, and Set 3: Twilight of the Republic in November.

The concrete release date was confirmed in early April during the First Look broadcast.

What is the theme of Star Wars Unlimited Set 2? Shadows of the Galaxy revealed

While we know for certain Shadows of the Galaxy will largely focus on Smugglers and Bounty Hunters, much like Spark of Rebellion, Set 2 looks to cover a vast range of Star Wars media once again.

Thanks to some early artwork, we first learned Moff Gideon and The Mandalorian himself Din Djarin will be a key part of the Set 2 Two-Player Starter kit, though various other tidbits have also been revealed. 

It’s also been teased the Bad Batch will be incorporated in Set 2 as well. Along with the likes of Darth Maul, Cad Bane, and many others.

A first look at Set 2 accessories, more on that below, also revealed a focus on Kylo Ren and Rey as well. Thus, Set 2’s theme is wide-ranging here as well, including all manner of Star Wars legends.

New mechanics in Star Wars Unlimited Set 2: Shadows of the Galaxy

We know for certain three new mechanics will be debuting as part of Star Wars Unlimited Set 2. All three have been named, though only two have been detailed properly. Here’s what we know:

• Bounty:
  • When ‘Bounty’ is given to a unit, when that unit is defeated or captured, its opponent collects its bounty.
  • The one example we have of a Bounty thus far is the Wanted card. When this bounty is collected, ready 2 friendly Resources.
  • The idea is to make an enemy unit a juicier target by placing a Bounty on it before defeating or capturing it. Giving yourself even more incentive/reward to take it off the board.
• Capture:
  • Capturing a unit is a new “form of temporary removal.” When a unit is Captured, it loses all of its upgrades and is placed face down under that unit that captured it (guarding unit).
  • When the guarding unit is removed from play, the Captured unit is ‘rescued.’ It returns to play exhausted under its owner’s control.
  • The idea here is to temporarily remove a threat from the board. Capture combos well with Bounty too, as you can collect a unit’s bounty just by briefly Capturing it for a phase or two.
• Smuggle:
  • Smuggle is a new Keyword action that allows you to play cards that have Smuggle from your resource pile. When you play a Smuggle card from your resource pile, you replace it with the top card from your deck meaning you won’t lose a resource to do so.
  • You can Smuggle Units, upgrades, and Events with the Smuggle keyword into play but they will always cost more to Smuggle. These will have an Aspect Cost and it can sometimes differ from the cards’ normal Aspect meaning certain Smuggle cards will only be viable in decks that combine certain colors.
  • Smuggling serves many purposes in Star Wars Unlimited. Chief among them is surprising opponents when your hand is limited. It can also make it easier to choose a card to resource because you have the option to play it later. Certain cards actually have an added bonus for playing them via Smuggle which makes the extra resources required feel less penalizing.

Although it’s early days yet, card reveals are starting to be drip-fed ahead of the July release. A handful of Leaders, units, and even a Legendary have all been showcased already.

• 6 cost Ground Unit: The Mandalorian

Beyond that, nothing else has been showcased for Set 2 just yet. However, we can make some educated guesses based on the artwork we already have in focus. For instance, the Set 2 accessories show Din Djarin wielding the Darksaber. There’s no doubt that would make for a perfect Upgrade card.

Similarly, a new game mat also displays a Rancor. We can only hope there’s a meaty Rancor Unit card on the way in Set 2 as a result.
